History Roots in LIKAS

1977 -- Informal group of UP medical students headed by Eddie Dorotan and bound by a common need to:

  • Put meaning and relevance to their formal education
  • Organize a community where they could belong
  • Respond to the growing misery of the majority of the Filipino people.

May 1979 -- Formal launching of LIKAS. Lingap para sa Kalusugan ng Sambayan (Care for the Health of the People) and integration with the Ateneo Center for Community Services (CCS) together with three other offices:

  • Organizing for Rural Development (ORD)
  • Worker's College (WC)
  • Office for Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI)

  • Community-based Health Program (CBHP) in Kalabuso, Cavite and Palma Uno, Alaminos, Laguna
  • CBHP in Sapang Palay, Bulacan
1982 - 1986: Period of Institutionalization and Geographic Expansion
